RALEIGH, N.C.—The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team lost back-to-back matches for the first time this season on Friday falling 1-8 at Meredith College followed by a 2-7 loss to Methodist University.
Ivy Kuroki (Hershey, Neb.) was the only Knight to record a singles victory on the day winning both her matches at the No. 4 position to remain undefeated in singles competition (9-0) this season.
In Friday's first match, Kuroki recorded Southern Virginia's only point against Meredith defeating Betty Edwards in straight sets (6-2, 7-6 (11-9)).
During the ensuing match against Methodist, Kuroki took the opening set from Lauryn Justice 6-4, before dropping the second set 5-7 and forcing a super-tiebreaker to decide the match, in which Kuroki eventually prevailed 11-9.
Kuroki also teamed with doubles partner Rebekah Reid (Woodland Hills, Utah) for Southern Virginia's only doubles victory of the day winning 8-5 in the second-seeded doubles match against Methodist.
Southern Virginia (7-3) is off until next Wednesday, Apr. 4 when the Knights have a match at Virginia Union University.
