ROANOKE, Va.—The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team won its fifth consecutive match on Friday defeating Harford Community College 6-3.
Despite forfeiting a doubles and singles match against Harford, Southern Virginia (5-1) won six of the seven matches actually played.
"It's a good win for us," said fourth-year head coach Deidra Dryden following Saturday's victory. "It's always difficult to start a match down 0-2, but our team showed a lost of mental toughness today performing under that pressure."
Rebekah Reid (Woodland Hills, Utah), Bethany Johnson (Apline, Utah), Ivy Kuroki (Hershey, Neb.) and Rebekah Ericson (Morgan, Utah) each took their singles matches in straight sets, while both of Southern Virginia's doubles teams—Reid/Kuroki and Johnson/Ericson—won easily in doubles play.
Women's tennis is back in action Thursday, Mar. 22 at Mary Baldwin College.
