Written by Chris Pendleton

LYNCHBURG, Va.—The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team won its fourth consecutive match on Friday defeating Randolph College 6-3.

Southern Virginia (4-1) led 2-1 after doubles competition as the Knights' No.1 (Rachel Reid/Bethany Johnson) and No. 3 (Rebekah Ericson/Courtney McNeil) doubles teams both earned wins over the Wildcats.

In singles play, the Knights took four of six matches as No. 2 Rebekah Reid (Woodland Hills, Utah) and No. 5 Ericson (Morgan, Utah) each climbed to 4-1 on the year, while No. 4 Ivy Kuroki (Hershey, Neb.) stayed undefeated (4-0) in singles play this season.

Re. Reid did not drop a point in the No. 2 match cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win while Ericson (6-2, 3-6, 11-9) and Kuroki (3-6, 6-1, 10-5) won the only two tie-breakers of the contest.

Shelly Rowberry (Dacula, Ga.) earned her first singles win of the season with a 7-5, 6-1 victory in the sixth-seeded match.

"That was a very good team and a very close match," said fourth-year head coach Deidra Dryden. "I'm especially proud of Ivy and Rebekah for pulling out their tie-beakers. We would not have won today without those two matches."

Women's tennis plays again tomorrow against Harford at 2:30 p.m. EST.
