LYNCHBURG, Va. — Despite playing its second consecutive match without a full roster, the Southern Virginia University women's tennis team continued its best season in program history with a 7-2 victory at Lynchburg College on Thursday.
Southern Virginia (14-3) won two out of three doubles matches against Lynchburg (2-10) and then took five of six matches in singles play to reach the final score.
The match was part of a doubleheader with Southern Virginia men's tennis, which also defeated Lynchburg 5-4.
Ra. Reid finished her afternoon without dropping a single game after an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles as sister Re. Reid was also on top of her game taking the second-seeded singles match 6-1, 6-1.
McGinn (No. 3) and Jensen (No. 4) also won their respective singles matches and finished the day at 2-0.
After dropping the first set at No. 5 singles 1-6, Rebekah Ericson rebounded to take the second set 6-1 and prevailed 10-5 in a super tiebreaker to win the only split-set match of the afternoon.
Having already set the program record for single-season wins, women's tennis will close out its year on Tuesday, Apr. 19 at Bluefield College. The match, which will be the Knights' third-straight doubleheader with Southern Virginia men's tennis, will begin at 2:30 p.m.
