Southern Virginia Completes Road Trip at 5-0

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. — Playing its fifth match in four days, the Southern Virginia University women's tennis team defeated St. Mary's College of Maryland on Friday 6-3 wrapping up its Spring Break road trip at a perfect 5-0.

Southern Virginia (9-0) continued its strong doubles play this season taking two of three matches from St. Mary's (3-6).

The Knights' top duo of Rachel Reid and Bethany Johnson were 8-3 winners at No. 1 doubles while Rebekah Reid and Brynn McGinn cruised 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Up 2-1 heading into singles play, Southern Virginia showed no signs of fatigue from its rigorous road trip and won four out of six singles matches to reach the final score.

Playing at No. 1 singles, Re. Reid dropped only two games in her 6-1, 6-1 victory and Johnson prevailed 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Jaclynn Arrington finished the road trip at an impressive 5-0 in singles play with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

Jennifer Jensen didn't drop a game in her 6-0, 6-0 win in the fourth-seeded singles match.

After a perfect four-day, five-match road trip, women's tennis now stands at 9-0 on the season, which sets a new mark for the best start in the program's five-year history.

Southern Virginia now has eight days off before traveling to Ferrum College on Saturday, Mar. 19 for a match at beginning at noon.
