Women's Tennis Routs Ferrum, Remains Undefeated

FERRUM, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team continued its perfect season on Saturday with a dominant 9-0 win over NCAA Division III Ferrum College.

The match was part of a doubleheader with Southern Virginia men's tennis, which also prevailed against the Panthers 7-2.

Southern Virginia (10-0) set the tone for the afternoon in doubles play, dropping only two games to Ferrum (1-5) in all three doubles matches combined.

Rachel Reid and Bethany Johnson were 8-1 winners in the top-seeded doubles match, while Jennifer Jensen and Rebekah Ericson won No. 3 doubles by the same score.

Rebekah Reid and Brynn McGinn cruised in No. 2 doubles 8-0.

After controlling doubles play, the Knights then swept through singles play winning five matches in straight sets and one match due to an injury forfeit.

With their singles wins, Ra. Reid, Re. Reid, Hansen and Jensen all moved to 2-0 on the day.

Jaclynn Arrington and Kayela Bridge both won their only match of the afternoon—Arrington won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4 singles while Bridge took the closest match of the contest in the fifth-seeded singles match, 6-1, 6-3.

Women's tennis will have a tough test on Tuesday, Mar. 22 when it travels to face a Bridgewater College team that is currently 7-2 on the season. The match will begin at 3:30 p.m.
