Southern Virginia Sweeps Mary Baldwin To Remain Undefeated

STAUNTON, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's tennis team continued its stellar play this spring by sweeping past Mary Baldwin College 9-0 on Thursday to remain perfect for the season.

Southern Virginia was dominant in singles play, giving away only two games to Mary Baldwin in all six singles matches combined. The Knights dropped only six games total in its three doubles victories.

Rebekah Reid and Bethany Johnson set the tone for Southern Virginia with an 8-2 win in the top-seeded doubles match. In No. 2 doubles, Jaclynn Arrington and Jennifer Jensen kept things rolling for the Knights with an 8-3 victory. Brittany Gibbons and Rebekah Ericson closed out doubles play with an emphatic 8-1 triumph at No. 3.

Southern Virginia followed up its doubles performance with straight-set wins in all six singles matches.

Rachel Reid remained undefeated this spring with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1.

Johnson and Arrignton both added 6-0, 6-0 singles wins to their earlier doubles victories at the No. 2 and 3 slots.

Kayela Bridge kept the Knights rolling at No. 4 with another straight set victory.

Ericson recorded a No. 5 singles victory to go along with her doubles win and Shelly Rowberry finished off Mary Baldwin with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6.

After winning both of its matches this spring, women's tennis sits at 4-0 on the season.

Southern Virginia will return to action on Tuesday, Mar. 8 with an 11 a.m. match at Shenandoah University, followed by a 3 p.m. match at Hood College.
