BUENA VISTA, Va. The Southern Virginia Men's and Women's Tennis teams participated in a clinic for local youth. The clinic lasted for a two-month period and was held in the afternoons on the SVU campus. Women's Tennis Head Coach Diedre Dryden directed the clinic, and enlisted the help of several men's and women's tennis players.
"It is a fantastic opportunity to reach out to the community," said Dryden. "We get to be involved in a sport we love, and we get to introduce that sport to the next generation of tennis players. We are still an emerging sport on campus, and we need to get exposure, and this clinic helps that. Teaching the sport at a basic level helps our players improve because they remember those basic components of the sport. Plus it reminds them that tennis is fun."
The Men's and Women's Tennis teams are scheduled to resume spring play in March.
