Tennis Goes 1-2 at Hilton Head - Spring Break

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Southern Virginia Women's Tennis Team ventured to South Carolina for their first ever spring break trip. The Knights took on D3 power Gettysburg College in day one and came away with a 0-9 defeat. The best matches of the day involved Bethany Johnson who teamed with Jaclyn Arrington and lost 8-3 in the #1 doubles match to Katie Taylor and Meghan Kelly. Johnson also played #1 singles and lost 6-4, 6-1.

Rachael Baldwin and Kayla Bridge fell 8-1, followed by Liz Eckman and Cindy Hall being defeated 8-0. Jaclyn Arrington played #2 singles and lost 6-4, 6-1. Kayla Bridge, Rachael Baldwin, Liz Eckman, and Cindy Hall finished 0-4 in their singles matches making it a sweep for Gettysburg.

Day two at Hilton Head found the #3 doubles team of Liz Eckman and Cindy Hall defeating Tara Biedenback and Christine Smythe of Mount Union College (9-7). Mount Union prevailed in all singles matches and two of the doubles matches, outscoring SVU 8-1. The Knights season team record stood at 1-3.

Sometimes all it takes is another day and the sun shines. Southern Virginia entered day three playing Penn State Behrend. The Knights came up winning the #1, and #3 doubles matches, Johnson and Arrignton prevailed 8-6 and Liz Eckman and Cindy Hall won their second doubles match in a row by defeating the # 3 Lions doubles team 8-5.

The singles matches were split 3-3 with Jaclyn Arrington, Liz Eckman, and Cindy Hall winning for the Knights. The Knights won the match 5-4 and improved their season record to 2-3.
