FERRUM, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team could not overcome a three-goal halftime deficit, falling to Ferrum College 4-1 at Penn-Roediger Field Wednesday night.
The Panthers (2-1) scored quickly in the first half as Ferrum took advantage of the Knights (1-4) with a goal in the 12th minute on a goal from Casey Raggett to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. In the following four minutes, Ferrum added a pair of goals in the 13th and 16th minute to head into the half up 3-0.
The Panthers pushed their lead to 4-0 in the 64th minute in the second half on Raggett's second goal of the night.
The Knights cut the Panthers lead to three late in the second half when Laurel Storheim scored on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute for her first goal at Southern Virginia. The Panthers responded by holding the Knights goalless for the remainder of the game to earn the 4-1 victory.
Southern Virginia recorded six different players to attempt a shot with four of those shots landing on goal.
The Knights were even with Ferrum in shots 11-11, shots on goal 5-5 and 2-2 in corner kicks.
Southern Virginia returns to Knight Stadium this Saturday, Sept. 14, for a 6:00 p.m. match against Brevard.
