Women's Soccer Preseason Poll and Preview

BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Capital Athletic Conference today announced the 2019 Women's Soccer Preseason Poll, positioning Southern Virginia University for a sixth-place finish.

"We play in an extremely competitive conference," said Head Coach Kenzie Cox. "We look forward to the opportunity to play each team in the conference twice this year."

CAC champions Christopher Newport has been selected as the unanimous favorite following winning the conference for the third consecutive year.

The Knights will look to bounce back from a season marred by numerous injuries.

Southern Virginia returns a strong core with Clarissa Barton, Elyssa Winterton, Kylie Auger, Sydney Kuhni, McCall Jensen, Emma Stohl, and Shayli Nakamoto.

The Knights also welcome back Taylor Mercer who missed the entire previous season. Mercer finished the 2017 season second on the team with 13 points.

Southern Virginia welcomes a solid number of newcomers, each looking to contribute for the Knights with Tori Wescott, Laurel Storheim, Audrey McKeon, Alyssa Trueman, Makinna Winterton, and Savannah Sundberg.

"We are eager for this season with the team we have," said Cox. "We have a talented incoming class combined with a solid core of returners that will push us to work harder to build a strong foundation. This team has worked very hard this offseason and we are excited to take the field together this weekend."

The Knights will start their season this weekend on the road on Aug. 30 against Meredith at 4 p.m.
