Knights Outpaced by Eagles Fall 5-2

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team fell on the road against No. 13 Mary Washington Wednesday evening, losing 5-2.

The Knights (4-12, 0-7) fell behind early when the Eagles (10-3-1) scored two and a half minutes into the game and again five minutes later to build a 2-0 lead.

Southern Virginia responded thirty seconds later with Kylie Auger finding teammate Haylee Grimmer Goering for the goal and closing the Knights deficit 2-1.

The Eagles scored their third goal of the first half in the 18th minute coming from Corinne Carson. The Eagles, leading 3-1 late in the first half, surrendered an own goal to keep the Knights within reach, now trailing 3-2 at the half.

The second half was all the Eagles as they recorded two more goals to close out the Knights 5-2.

The Knights were outshot by the Eagles in shots (17-6) and corner kicks (6-0). On the defensive side, each team recorded two saves for the game.

Southern Virginia will now play in the CAC Tournament starting Saturday, Oct. 27 at Christopher Newport at 6:00 p.m.
