BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team lost its nonconference matchup with Ferrum College on Wednesday, falling to the Panthers 3-0.
The Knights (4-6) played an excellent first half, keeping pressure on the Panthers' (6-0-1) defense for the majority of the 45 minutes. Southern Virginia attempted five shots in the half while Ferrum had four, but neither team was able to find the back of the net as they went into halftime scoreless.
The Panthers broke the 0-0 tie early in the first half, volleying in a cross for the 1-0 lead. 15 minutes later they doubled their lead by heading in one of the two corner kicks they earned in the game. Ferrum scored its third goal in the 84th minute for the 3-0 win.
While the Knights outshot the Panthers 11-10, the squad was only able to put two of those shots on goal.
The Knights resume conference play on Saturday as they travel to Pennsylvania to take on York College of Pennsylvania. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. in York, Pa.
