BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team defeated William Peace, 2-0 at the home opener with two late game goals.
The Knights missed on several scoring opportunities but were able to establish themselves on the defense.
In the second half the Knights continued a balanced attack at the Pacers. The first goal of the season came in the 87th minute from freshman Sydney Kuhni who received a pass from Anne Fujikawa in the middle of the box. One-minute later, Alli Rigby scored from 20 yards unassisted, placing the ball in the top left corner of the goal.
"I'm proud of the team, they have put in the time this offseason to get us prepared for the year. We have a solid group of returners that have laid a tremendous foundation for this season," said Head Coach Kenzie Cox. "Today we were able to move the ball together. I really like how the team banded together to get those two key goals in the final minutes."
Southern Virginia will play their next game on the road at Marymount University on Sept. 5 at 7:00 p.m.
