Women's Soccer Concludes Season with 9-0 Shutout

FRONT ROYAL, Va. — In its final game of the 2017 season, the Southern Virginia women's soccer team shut out Christendom College 9-0 on Monday.

The Knights (7-9-2) poured in five goals in the first half and four more in the second in the win against the Crusaders (8-10). Seven different Knights scored in the game, led by freshman Cyanne Smith's hat trick. Forwards Alli Rigby, McCall Jensen, and Taylor Mercer, midfielders Kora Jewell and Clarissa Barton, and defender Anne Powell each contributed a goal as well. The goals were the first of Jensen's and Powell's careers.

Southern Virginia's passing was on display as well, with Smith, Mercer, Powell, and Barton tallying an assist each.

The Knights had an incredible 43 shot attempts, including 22 on goal. The team also took eight corner kicks in the match, with one of them resulting in a goal.

Junior Merideth Ouellette started in goal and picked up the win for the Knights, with Carmel Armstrong and Katie Vaughn coming on in relief.
