Women's Soccer Suffers 2-0 Loss at York

YORK, Pa. — With both teams battling for a spot in the upcoming Capital Athletic Conference tournament, the Southern Virginia University women's soccer team fell to York College (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon by a score of 2-0.

The teams played an even match until midway through the first half, when the Spartans (4-9-2, 3-4-1 CAC) floated a shot to the top left corner of the goal to give them a 1-0 lead. The Knights (6-8-1, 3-4-1 CAC) then put the pressure on, taking four shots in the next 20 minutes before halftime.

The match was back-and-forth for the majority of the second period until the Spartans extended the lead to 2-0 in the 78th minute. After fighting hard for the last stretch, the Knights took the loss.

The Knights' Alli Rigby, Kora Jewell, and McCall Jensen combined to take the team's eight shots, but only managed one on frame.

Goalkeeper Merideth Oullette picked up the loss and finished the match with four saves.

Southern Virginia is now tied for fifth place in the conference with York (Pa.) and Mary Washington. As the top six teams make the CAC tournament, the games across the conference this week will determine whether the Knights get to participate in postseason play.

Southern Virginia plays their last home game on Wednesday evening as they take on Frostburg State University at Knights Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
