Knights Dominate Catamounts

KEYSER, W. Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team picked up their first win of the season on Wednesday, dominating Potomac State College 9-0.

The Catamounts (0-2) were no match for the Knights (1-4), who scored five goals in the first half and four in the second half in a total-team effort. The Knights shot 48 times over the course of the game, with 26 shots on goal.

Freshman Alli Rigby finished with a hat trick for Southern Virginia, while fellow forward Taylor Mercer scored two goals and tallied an assist. Also finding the back of the net for the Knights were midfielders Emma Schroeder, Ayrdrie Palmer, and Kylie Auger, while defender Kyra Tolbert tacked a goal on as well.

Sophomore midfielder Clarissa Barton distributed the ball extremely well, assisting on three of the Knights' goals. Auger and freshman McCall Jensen also had assists in the game.

Goalkeeper Carmel Armstrong picked up the win, saving the Catamounts' only shot on goal.

Southern Virginia looks to pick up another win on Saturday as they travel to Danville, Va. to play Averett University. Game time is slated for 6:00 p.m.
