Palmer Achieves All-Conference Team Honors

By Daniel Whitehead

YORK, Pa.—Having led the Knights in multiple categories this season, Southern Virginia University women's soccer scholar-athlete Lora Palmer was honored as an All-Capital Athletic Conference recipient Wednesday afternoon in York, Pa.

A junior from Alpine, Utah, Palmer was named to the All-CAC Second Team after leading the team in goals, assists and points during the 2013 season.

"We are very happy for Lora and it's a well-deserved honor," said Southern Virginia Director of Soccer Matt Grawrock. "She has meant a lot to the program the past two years and her contributions both on and off the field have been tremendous. Her quickness and overall athleticism caused a lot of trouble for opponents during her time here and she resembled the kind of talent we bring to the table in this league. Lora was a great leader for us."

Palmer tied for first on the team in goals this season with 12 and distributed the ball well to teammates en route to a team-best eight assists on the year for a total of 32 points. Playing the forward position, she earned 35 shot attempts on the season, including 21 on goal, and had one game-winning goal against Fisher College.

She helped the Knights outscore opponents by a 41-31 ratio for an average of 2.28 goals per game during the season. Her marks also helped Southern Virginia outduel opponents in shots on goal by a 136-122 margin. She earned a season-high four goals against Fisher College on Oct. 11 and scored three against Washington Adventist on Sept. 23. Palmer also had two goals versus Trinity (D.C.) and Penn State Harrisburg.

Southern Virginia posted a 7-11-1 record on the year and went 1-1 at a postseason tournament for NCAA provisional schools in Chicago, Ill., falling to Nebraska Wesleyan in double overtime last Saturday by a 1-0 score in the championship game.
