BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team could not hold on to its first-half lead at home Wednesday afternoon as the Knights fell to visiting NCAA Division III Shenandoah University 3-1.
Sophomore forward Bryndel Kindred (Tremonton, Utah) netted her first goal of the season on a cross from freshman Maia McArthur (Laie, Hawaii) in the 25th minute giving the Knights an early lead over the Hornets.
Despite carrying their lead into halftime after a two-save first-half shutout from sophomore keeper Briar Sands (Lehi, Utah), the Knights could not slow Shenandoah's second-half attack as the Hornets scored three goals within a 21-minute stretch to reach the final score.
Shenandoah (7-5) outshot Southern Virginia (3-8) for the match 28-8. The Knights have now dropped five of their last six contests dating back to Sept. 19.
After facing nine consecutive D-III opponents since Sept. 9, women's soccer will play its first USCAA opponent of the season on Monday, Oct. 10 when the Knights travel to Christendom College for a match beginning at 5 p.m.
