LYNCHBURG, Va.—Playing its second game in as many days, the Southern Virginia University women's soccer team fell to the Lynchburg College Hornets Saturday afternoon 10-1.
Lynchburg (7-2) scored only 18 seconds into Saturday's match against Southern Virginia (2-6) and never looked back, netting seven unanswered goals against the Knights in the opening half.
Southern Virginia's only goal at Lynchburg came from senior Melanee Guymon (Chico, Calif.)—her second of the season tying freshman Jade Sorenson for the team lead—in the 72nd minute when the Knights already trailed 9-0.
Lynchburg would add one more goal just over a minute later to reach the final score. The Hornets outshot the Knights 34-3 for the match, including a 20-2 advantage for shots-on-goal.
Women's soccer hopes to stop it current three-game slide Monday, Sept. 26 at Ferrum College when the Knights play their third match in four days at 6 p.m.
