RADFORD, Va.—The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team opened its 2011 season Friday night with an 8-0 loss to NCAA Division I opponent Radford University.
Friday night's loss was déjà vu for the Knights who opened their 2010 season with an 8-0 loss to the Radford Highlanders.
After going 6-2-1 in conference play last year and earning a share of the 2010 Big South regular season crown, Radford looked sharp early on, scoring all eight of its goals in the first 27 minutes of play.
With a comfortable lead over the Knights, the Highlanders stalled their offensive attack, but maintained their defensive intensity holding Southern Virginia shotless for the match.
Women's soccer will look to bounce back on Sept. 2 when the Knights travel the short distance to Lexington, Va., to take on their second consecutive D-I opponent, VMI, at 4 p.m.
