BUENA VISTA, Va. The Southern Virginia Women's Soccer team arrived on August 9 to begin pre-season for the 2010 season. The 2010 season will be looking for an improvement from the 7-9-1 season of a year ago. The Knights had a strong strength of schedule last year, and made another trip to the USCAA National Tournament, but could not find the winning formula to repeat as National Champions.
Head Coach Matt Grawrock welcomes 21-players into the camp. The Knights will be young this season, but still have a strong core of returners from the previous season. The youth will be counted on for an immediate impact, as the team will look to be prepared for a tough opening game against NCAA D.I Radford, August 21.
"Our first game will be a struggle," said Grawrock. "The first few practices have looked good though, and I think we'll have a lot of talent this year. I'm confident we'll give a good showing against Radford."
SVU will continue to enjoy the home field advantage provided by a new facility. The synthetic turf field, and a newly laid grass surface at the Southern Virginia Practice Fields will continue to be an asset for the program heading into it's thirteenth season of competition.
