ARLINGTON, Va. – The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team's eight-game unbeaten streak came to an end Thursday evening as the Knights fell to Marymount University, 1-0.
Marymount scored the match's only goal on a penalty kick in the 21st minute of play. All four of Southern Virginia's shots on goal were turned away by Marymount's keeper, including a point-blank attempt toward the end of regulation, as the Knights suffered their first lost since Sept. 21.
With the loss, Southern Virginia closed out its regular season at 9-6-1, which marks women's soccer's best finish under four-year coach, Matt Grawrock.
Its regular season complete, women's soccer will now travel to compete in the USCAA Soccer National Championship, which will be held at Vermont Technical College in Burlington, Vt. from Nov. 5-7.
