Double Overtime Ends In 0-0 Tie For Women's Soccer

BUENA VISTA, Va. – Although the Southern Virginia University women's soccer team dominated possession in Friday's double-overtime match – outshooting visiting Chowan University 34-4 on the afternoon – the Knights were unable to net a goal in front of the homecoming crowd and played the Hawks to a 0-0 tie.

Southern Virginia's defense, anchored by Amanda Zweifel, Michelle Riddle, Laura Schow and Tamara Nagle, was suffocating on Friday afternoon as the Knights only allowed the Hawks two shots on goal in 110 minutes of play, both of which were turned away by keeper Mariah Flake.

While the Knights' recorded their second straight shutout, their offense was unable to find the back of the net despite firing 16 shots on goal. Chowan's keeper recorded 13 saves in the competition.

Women's soccer, now 5-5-1 on the season, returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 12, when it hosts Bluefield College at The Fields. The match will begin at 3:30 p.m.
