Knights Fall In Season Opener At Radford

RADFORD, Va. The Southern Virginia Women's Soccer team faced a daunting challenge in its season opener, as the Knights squared off against NCAA D.I Radford, and suffered the loss. Radford scored early against the visitors, and SVU could not recover, falling 8-0.

The Highlanders scored within the first two minutes against the Knights, with Mariah Flake being called on early and often to stop Radford attacks. SVU had small spurts of possession, but could not find a rhythm against the organized hosts.

Flake put up six saves in the first half. SVU was facing an onslaught of shots, and gave up four goals in each half. Briar Sands came in for the second half, and recorded 8-saves while also allowing 4-goals.

SVU will now have a nearly two-week break before an official game against NCAA D.I foe South Carolina State comes to Buena Vista for a game. The visit by the Bulldogs will be the first time in SVU Women's Soccer history, that the Knights have hosted a D.I opponent. The game will be at the Southern Virginia fields, and will start at 4:30.
