SVU Lands Four on All-American List

BURLINGTON, Vt. The USCAA announced the list of Women's Soccer All-Americans, and SVU came away with four players on the First-Team. Led by 2008 All-American Melanee Guymon, the Knights placed Kendra Heim, Mariah Flake and Taylor Osborn on the team.

"This is a great accomplishment for these ladies," said Head Coach Matt Grawrock. "We've had a good season as a team, and these four players have done a tremendous job individually. I'm very pleased with their accomplishments."

Guymon, from Chico, Ca, was named for her second time in as many years. The sweeper played in all of the games this season, and was the third leading scorer for the Knights.

Osborn, from Rancho Santa Margarita, Ca, was the teams leading goalscorer, and was a constant threat on the offensive end for the Knights.

Heim, from Pullman, Wa, was the team leader in points and assists. Heim was also a finalist for USCAA player of the week earlier in the season after a 4-assist performance against Christendom College.

Flake, from Clarksville, Tn, was a leader for the Knights as goalkeeper. Flake finishes the season with 6 shutouts, and a low Goals Against Average.

Added to the list of All-Americans is Whitni Watkins who was named an Academic All-American. This is the second year for Watkins to receive the prestigious award which honors athletes with a 3.5 GPA or higher. Watkins, a senior from Mesa, Az, will graduate at the end of the 2010 school year after playing four years for the Knights.

"This is a remarkable accomplishment for Whitni," said Grawrock. "She prides herself on getting it done in the classroom, and an award like this gives everybody something to shoot for. I hope that we can get as many of these as we have regular All-Americans. I'm very proud of all of these ladies. They represent SVU very well."
