Kights Held to Draw

AMHERST, Va. On a wet and soggy day the Southern Virginia Women's Soccer team could not find the back of the net against a resolute Sweet Briar defense and tied 0-0. The Knights out shot the Vixens, and had the majority of the possession for the game. The ball was in the Sweet Briar end a majority of the game, but the visitors could not get the ball in to the net after regular time and two overtimes.

Amber Key and Melanee Guymon were instrumental in the assault, and had several of their shots saved by the Vixen keeper. Several of the Knight shots hit the crossbar, but no one from the SVU team could follow on the rebound.

"It was a very frustrating day," said Head Coach Matt Grawrock. "We had so many chances, and yet we could not put it home. I'm proud of the effort, and I'm pleased at how we came together and worked as a unit to get the chances. We just need a little more work on the finishing end.

Goalkeeper Mariah Flake recorded her fourth shutout of the season in the tie. SVU now stands at 4-4-1 on the season. The ladies will be back in action Sept. 30 as they travel to play at Christendom, a rematch of the 208 USCAA National Championship Final, in which the Knights triumphed 3-0. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 4:00.
