BUENA VISTA, Va. Southern Virginia Women's Soccer head coach Matt Grawrock has announced the 2010 schedule. The program is viewed as one of the toughest schedules the program has faced in its history. Within the first month, SVU will face three NCAA D.I foes. The highlight of the schedule will be the Knights welcoming South Carolina St. to Buena Vista. SVU played against the program last season, and this encounter will mark the first time that a D.I school will visit to play against the women's soccer team.
SVU will also face off against Radford and Liberty. The game against Radford will take place Aug. 21, and will be the opening game for both teams. The schedule will not be any easier in between the three D.I teams as the Knights will play away against Eastern Mennonite and Shenandoah. Both teams are NCAA D.III and will be strong challenges for the Knights.
The Knights will match up later in September against Greensboro College, and then take on three D.II WVIAC schools in Charleston (WV), Ohio Valley and Shepherd. A rematch with USCAA foe Christendom is on the cards for the beginning of October.
In October, the Knights will welcome Chowan and then Bluefield before heading on the road to face USCAA rival Washington Adventist. SVU will then return home to take on NAIA member Mountain State, before finishing the season on the road at Ferrum.
The 8-home games represent the largest total of games in the history of the program. The Knights will look to improve on last season's 7-9-1 record, and earn another trip to the USCAA National Tournament.
