Southern Virginia Places 12th at Budd Whitehall Duals

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Southern Virginia University men's wrestling team concluded day two of competition at the Budd Whitehall Duals, placing 12th at the tournament. 

Southern Virginia earned its 12th place finish after an impressive first day of competition but fell short on day two falling to No. 22 Castleton 46-6 and to York 31-13. The Knights' 12th place finish puts them four places higher than their placing from last year at 16th.

Nico Ramirez concluded the tournament being selected to the All-Tournament Team for the 285-pound division. Ramirez went 5-0 on the weekend with a victory by tech fall in :28 against Shea Garand of Castleton and a win by decision 3-0 against Thomas Tabatneck of York. 

All-Tournament Team honors are awarded after the tournament at each weight to the undefeated wrestler that earned the most team points per match, not including wins by default, injury default or disqualification. The Most Outstanding Wrestler is awarded to the wrestler that earned the most points per match on the championship team in the tournament.

Gavin Blair of the 174-pound division picked up a win on the day, defeating Joseph Bunce of York by decision 4-3. Joining Blair was Morgan Peterson in the 165-pound division, who defeated Jesse Rocco of York by decision 8-3.

In the 133-pound division, Aaron Freidhof wrapped up his impressive weekend, splitting his two matches on the day with a victory over Logan Fox of york. Freidhof fell in his second match of the day to Nicholas Camacho of No. 22 Castleton by decision 9-4. 

The Knights will continue their season traveling to Greensboro College on Jan. 16. The match is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
