Wrestling Finishes Sixth at the Southeast Wrestling Conference Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Southern Virginia University wrestling team placed sixth at the Southeast Wrestling Conference Tournament with a score of 30.5.

Morgan Peterson in the 157-pound weight class finished fourth having to climb through the consolation bracket collecting a pair of wins but falling in the match for third place.

Keaton Gomez received a first-round bye in the 174-pound weight class and then won his first match over Andrew Cannon of the Ozarks before falling in the quarterfinals to Blake Rosenbaum of Ferrum College. Gomez won out the consolation bracket placing third overall.

In the 197-pound weight class, Quigley Whitaker fell to Adolfo Sotolongo of the Ozarks after defeating Jimmy Haynes of Huntingdon College by way of fall. After falling to the consolation bracket, Whitaker won his next two matches to finish third overall and a 3-1 record.

The  Knights will now prepare for the NCAA DIII Southeast Regional Tournament Friday, Feb. 22.
