BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University wrestling team faced off against Ferrum College Wednesday night, suffering a 41-12 loss on senior night.
The Knights fell in the first six weight classes trailing 30-0. Junior Keaton Gomez registered Southern Virginia's first points of the match with a pin overpowering Jesse Carter in the 174-pound weight class, making the score 30-6. Gomez's win is the 20th of the season and his 10th pin of the year all while increasing his single season takedown record to 50.
The Panthers then claimed the victory in the 184-pound weight class, extending their lead to 35-6.
Sophomore Quigley Whitaker recorded the victory with a pin in just one minute and thirty-four seconds over Pablo Zanistanavicius. The pin brought the Knights into double figures, but the Panthers still had an insurmountable lead. After winning the last bout, Ferrum collected the 41-12 win.
"We wrestled a good team," said head coach Logan Davis. "I am proud of the way we fought on the mat. We will get rested and make preparations for conference and regionals."
The Knights wrap up their regular season at Allen University on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 1:00 p.m.
