Wrestling Goes 1-2 at Spartan Duals

YORK, Pa.— The Southern Virginia University wrestling team traveled to York, Pennsylvania to compete in the Spartan Duals on Saturday afternoon.

Where they faced off against Penn State University-Mont Alto, Pennsylvania College of Technology and No. 25 York College of Pennsylvania. The Knights defeated Penn State-Mont Alto but fell to the other two.

In the Knights win against Penn State University-Mont Alto, Christopher Fletcher of Southern Virginia set the new record for the fastest pin in school history, defeating his opponent in just 11 seconds. Two wrestlers later, Keaton Gomez of the Knights stole that record from Fletcher pinning his opponent in the 174-pound weight class in only 10 seconds. Both of these wins were key contributions to the Knights victory over the Lions, 39-18.

The Knights dropped their matchup against Pennsylvania College of Technology 31-9 and against #25 York College, 39-12.

Gomez's pin was his ninth of the year tying teammate Alex Brunner for the most pins on the season for the Knights. Freshman, Morgan Peterson made his Southern Virginia debut going 2-0 on the afternoon.

Southern Virginia will return to action as they head home to compete on senior night against Ferrum College Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 6:30 p.m.
