BUENA VISTA, Va. — In a loud, packed Stoddard Center, the Southern Virginia University wrestling team was taken down by the Generals of Washington and Lee 36-9 on Friday evening.
Despite some impressive efforts early on by the Knights, the team were handled losses at the 125-174-pound weight classes, putting the Knights down 36-0 heading into the upper weight divisions.
At the 184-pound weight class, Matthew Rohrdanz took the stage for Southern Virginia. Rohrdanz grinded out a tough match and was able to come through in the clutch with a close 5-4 victory earning three points, putting the Knights on the board.
Matt Speelman was next up for the Knights, wrestling at the 197-pound weight class. distancing himself from his opponent and managed to claim a decisive 5-2 victory, earning three points.
The last matchup of the evening was the heavyweight division, senior Alex Brunner was in a low-scoring dual with the Generals, managing to record a 3-2 win, ending the match with the generals on a high-note.
The Knights return to action on Saturday, November 17th as they will be attending the VBR Sports Southeast Duals. The duals are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
