Knights Wrestling Falls to Washington and Lee University

LEXINGTON Va. – The Southern Virginia University wrestling team fell short in its duel against Washington and Lee University on Friday evening, losing 38-9.

The Knights started off with an extremely close match with Washington and Lee in the 125-pound weight class. Aaron Freidhof lost by decision 8-7.

Southern Virginia then lost in the next six bouts and had to forfeit six points as well.

Matt Speelman broke the Washington and Lee assault and earned three points in the 197-pound weight class after he defeated his opponent, Zach England by an 11-8 decision.

Nico Ramirez represented the Knights in the 285-pound weight class and gave the Knights six points after pinning his opponent, Mathew Kaminer in overtime 7:50. Kaminer was ranked in the top 30 earlier this season.

The Knights will hit the road to face off in a duel against Ferrum College on Wednesday, January 31 at 7:00 p.m.
