Rohrdanz, Mendez Lead Knights to Win Over Keystone, Fall to Trine and Muskingham

LEXINGTON Va. – In its last meet before the break, the Southern Virginia University wrestling team was able to defeat Keystone College, 30-21 despite falling to Trine University 44-6 and Muskingum University 40-12.

Matthew Rohrdanz was the first to score for the Knights against Keystone College after his opponent was forced to default due to injury. After Keystone forfeited in the 174, 184, and 197-pound weight classes, Ruben Mendez sealed the win with a pin against Jake Rugis at 285 pounds.

Against Trine, Rohrdanz and Mendez were the only Knights to score. Rohrdanz defeated his opponent by decision 9-7. Mendez also defeated his opponent by decision 11-4.

Keaton Gomez came close to victory but ultimately lost by decision 10-8.

The Knights were able to take 12 points off of Muskingum in their duel. Keaton Gomez was the first Knight to earn points, defeating his opponent with a pin. Gordon Whitaker earned six points for the Knights after his opponent defaulted due to injury.

The Knights will have time to rest before they are back in action on January 6 at the Jim Krytzer Invitational.
