Wrestlings Holds Annual Casperson Classic, Three Fall in Championship Bouts

BUENA VISTA, Va. –  The Southern Virginia University wrestling team hosted the fourth-annual Casperson Classic, finishing second in the 149, 165, and 174 weight classes.

In the 149-weight class, Zachary Davidson won by decision in both his quarterfinal and semifinal bouts. In the final, Davidson lost by a technical fall 20-4 after a grueling seven-minute contest.

Matthew Rohrdanz represented the Knights in the 165-weight class. On his way to the first-place match, Rohrdanz earned a pin and won by decision. The final bout was decided by a close 4-3 decision in favor of his opponent.

Finishing in second place for the Knights in the 174-weight class was Keaton Gomez. Gomez won by decision in his opening round 13-7, by major decision in the quarterfinals 15-6, and by decision again in his semifinal bout 11-10. In the final, Gomez fell to his opponent by a major decision 16-5.

The Knights will be back in action at home on November 29 in a dual against Hampden-Sydney. The Knights recently beat out Hampden-Sydney in the Virginia Beach Open, where Southern Virginia took first in the tournament.
