LEXINGTON, Va—The Southern Virginia University wrestling team finished with 59 team points at the 25th annual Washington and Lee Invitational on Saturday edging out Liberty University by two points for fifth place in the six team tournament.

Sophomore Jeremy Atkinson (Yuba City, Calif.) and freshman Michael Kilstrom (Upper Arlington, Ohio) each earned bronze metals at the invitational accounting for 19 points apiece towards Southern Virginia's team total.

Atkinson finished 4-1 on day pinning two of his opponents on route to the 149-lb. semifinals where he eventually fell by three points (7-10) after separating his shoulder early in the match.

Kilstrom also went 4-1 at the invitational earning one pin and one major decision (13-1). Like Atkinson, the freshman's only defeat on the day came in the 185-lb. bracket semifinals when Kilstrom lost by pinfall to his opponent from Bridgewater College.

Sophomore Sean Porter (Kaysville, Utah), who wrestled unattached on Saturday, placed second in the 149-lb. bracket falling 4-8 in the championship round.

The Knights have a week off before traveling to Newport News, Va. on Saturday, Jan. 21 to participate in the Builder Invitational hosted by fellow NCWA-affiliate The Apprentice School.
