DALTON, Ga.—The Southern Virginia University wrestling team went 1-5 this past weekend placing 16th overall at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association National Duals—a two-day tournament featuring 25 teams held at the Norwest Georgia Convention Center in Dalton, Ga.
Southern Virginia, which came into the National Duals as the 18th seeded team, won its first and only dual match of the tournament against the University of Cincinnati, beating the Bearcats on Friday morning 33-22. Later that afternoon, the Knights were held scoreless against Lindenwood University-St. Charles (0-60) finishing the day with a 1-1 record.
On Saturday, Southern Virginia dropped all three of its duals falling to Liberty University (18-39), Marion Military Institute (3-54), and East Tennessee State University (16-42).
Freshman Andrew Evans (Gahanna, Ohio), who scored Southern Virginia's only three points against Marion Military Institute with a 16-11 victory, was the winningest Knight at the National Duals going 3-2 during the two-day tournament.
Sophomore Joshua Hall (Pocatello, Idaho) also wrestled well for the Knights winning two of his three matches, while fellow sophomore Jeremy Atkinson (Yuba City, Calif.) went 1-3 despite wrestling with a partially separated shoulder.
Wrestling is off until next Saturday, Feb. 4 when the Knights travel to Johnson City, Tenn. for a quad-match at East Tennessee State University.
