DAYTON, Ohio—Two members of the Southern Virginia University men's wrestling team competed in the Flyer Open at the University of Dayton on Saturday with Jeremy Atkinson earning a second place finish for the second time in as many meets this season.

Competing in the 157-lb weight class, Atkinson (Yuba City, Calif.) advanced to the bracket finals by pinning his opening-round opponent from Dayton in just 1:28, followed by a second-round pin over his semi-finals opponent from Slippery Rock University.

After pinning his first two opponents, Atkinson was then pinned in the bracket championship by his second straight opponent from Slippery Rock. Atkinson, who also finished second last week at the 2011 Rat Rumble Open hosted by Virginia Military Institute, moved to 3-2 on the season with his two wins and one loss at the Flyer Open.

Caleb West, the only other Southern Virginia wrestler to compete in the Flyer Open, was pinned in both of his matches competing in the 197-lb. bracket.

The Knights are off until Dec. 3, when they host the 3rd Annual Turkey Bowl Classic beginning at 8:30 a.m. EDT.
