Knights Compete At Shipbuilder Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Southern Virginia University wrestling team saw two of its athletes compete in the Apprentice Shipbuilders Invitational. Travis Trahan and Taylor Savio made the trip to the coast and represented the Knights in the annual tournament hosted by SVY rivals, Apprentice.

Trahan started the day for the Knights in the 141-lb weight class. Trahan had his hands full in the first match, and fell to #1 seed Kendall Alberts at the 5:14 mark of the third period. Trahan moved to the consolation bracket, and recorded a pin over Zaman Abbas of Florida at the 2:42 mark of the first period. Trahan's day finished in his third match, as he was eliminated by Odis Wesby of Apprentice, losing by a score of 3-5.

Savio weighed in at the 197-weight class, and scored an upset of the #4 seeded Alec Pence of the University of Maryland- Baltimore County, winning 11-10. Savio was then pushed in to the consolation bracket, as he lost to Florida-Gulf Coast's Nathan Behrent. Savio would not get another win, as his next match ended in a fall at the :32-second mark in the first period to Jackie Miller of Middle Tennessee State University.
