LYNCHBURG, Va. - Behind strong individual efforts from all team members, the Southern Virginia University wrestling team was able to post a 1-1 record at the Lynchburg Duals. Four members of the team won both of their matches against Lynchburg College and the other visitor, Virginia Tech Club.
Travis Trahan (141 lbs.), Jeremy Atkinson (157 lbs.), Wesley Hyatt (184 lbs.) and Taylor Savio (197 lbs.) each scored victories against both of their opponents to pace the Knights. Gordon Gifford and Andrew Blakeley also competed well for the Knights.
SVU was able to record a win against the hosts, as they scored a 46-34 win over Lynchburg, and could have had more points. Due to three forfeits because of wrestlers at a certain weight class, the Knights narrowly lost to Virginia Tech, 33-39.
The 1-1 record starts the season out for the young Knights, who have only one player that is not a freshman. The team will look to carry the momentum of a good weekend into the following meet, as the Knights travel to take part in the Flyer Invitational in Dayton, OH, on Nov. 20.
