GRAND PRAIRIE, Tx. Senior Peter Rose started 2010 off on a high note as he beat Brandon Roehrich of Jamestown College, 7-3, in the NAIA-NCWA American Airlines All-Star Classic. The event, held in conjunction with the 10th annual Lone Star Duals, was a first-of-its kind event pairing both associations’ defending national champions or highest-ranked wrestlers in a dual-match format. Rose is the two-time defending champion for the NWCA, and was invited to participate against the best of the NAIA.
The three-time All-American was the only wrestler for the NWCA to gain overall points for the team, as he scored the only NWCA victory for the afternoon. Rose will be looking to become the only SVU wrestler to be a four-time American and three-time National Champion.
"This is a tremendous win," said Head Coach Nate Casperson. "These are really good wrestlers, and Peter went up against a title-contending opponent. To get a win over his opponent is a testament to what kind of wrestler he is. SVU is lucky to have an athlete of his caliber at the school."
