Rose Wins Knight Awards' Male Athlete of the Year

BUENA VISTA, Va. Senior wrestler Peter Rose, has been voted the 2009-2010 Knight Awards Male Athlete of the Year. The Knight Awards honor the accomplishments and achievements of Southern Virginia athletes and teams. Fans have been able to vote, and combined with athletic staff votes, winners have been chosen, and then highlighted on the SVU website.

Rose's award is the final award for an illustrious season, let alone a remarkable career. Rose started the 2009-2010 season with a trip to the American Airlines NAIA-NCWA All-Star challenge, where he faced off against the top ranked wrestler in the NAIA. Rose was the only wrestler for the NCWA side to get a win and points for the team.

His wins did not end there, as he went on to win the Apprentice Shipbuilders classic for a fourth consecutive year, and was named the Outstanding Wrestler for the tournament. The winning continued for Rose as he headed into his last Mid-Atlantic Conference Tournament. Rose finished first to earn the automatic bid to the national tournament, and was voted the outstanding wrestler for the tournament for the second time in his career.

Rose capped off a magical season, as he won the NCWA National Tournament for the third consecutive year. His win also allowed him to become a four-time All-American. After the win, Rose was named to the VaSID All-State First team for the second consecutive year.

The Southern Virginia athletic department wishes to congratulate Peter Rose for his accomplishments and for winning the 2009-2010 Knight Award Male Athlete of the Year.
