Knights Fall at Home to Captains

BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team fell 24-5 at the hands of Christopher Newport University Tuesday afternoon at Knight Stadium.

The Knights (7-4, 0-2) were unable to slow down the Captains (7-6, 1-1) high-powered offense trailing 14-1 at the half. Southern Virginia's lone goal of the half came on a Lauren Thatcher goal from Natalie Rice.

The Captains expanded on their first-half lead outscoring the Knights 10-4 to seal the win with a 24-5 victory.

Thatcher and Caitriona Knowles led the Knights with two goals each while Megan Barfuss scored the other. Hannah King and Jordan Gundersen led the team with three ground balls each.

Julia Golden led the Captains with a game-high six points by way of five goals and an assist.

The Knights look to rebound in a non-conference matchup against Hollins University Saturday, April 6 starting at 3:00 p.m.
