BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team fell short against the Keuka College Wolves by a 14-11 count on Thursday afternoon at Knight Stadium.
The Knights (6-2) trailed early 5-1 after the Wolves (5-0) scored four unanswered goals. Southern Virginia responded with a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the game 6-5. After a pair of Wolves goals, the Knights closed out the half with a goal to square the game at 7-7 heading into the half.
In the second half, the Wolves outscored the Knights 7-4 much in part to a 5-0 run. The Knights attempted to get back into the game scoring three goals in the final 12 minutes but were unable to get into striking distance, falling 14-11.
Despite the Knights leading ground balls 30-25 and draw controls 17-10, the Wolves caused 32 turnovers and cleared nine more balls than the Knights to collect the win.
Caitriona Knowles, Lauren Thatcher and Jordan Gundersen each recorded a hat-trick in the loss, while Megan Barguss led the Knights with a game-high four assists. Gundersen also led the Knights with five ground balls.
Mary-Kate Johnson receives the loss at goal allowing 11 goals and picking up five saves.
The Knights will finish up their two-game homestand Tuesday, Mar. 26 at 3:30 p.m. as they will face St. Andrews at Knight Stadium.
