BUENA VISTA, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team won 17-6 against non-conference opponent Montreat College at home Saturday afternoon.
A goal by Lauren Thatcher put the Knights (2-3, 0-1 CAC) on the board in the first two minutes and was quickly followed with a goal by Zoe Bradshaw. Montreat (0-4, 0-1 AAC) answered with two goals of their own to tie the game until Southern Virginia went on an 8-0 run to take an eight-point lead at halftime.
The second half was also controlled by the Knights as they outscored the Cavaliers 7-4 to secure their second win of the season.
Eight different Knights managed to score in the win. Bradshaw led the way with four goals and had a career-high three assists. Claire Houghtaling and Madeleine DuPaix each had a hat trick. Thatcher and Elise Johnson contributed two goals apiece. Ashley Lessing, Emily Winslow, and Majkaleah Knowles each recorded one goal.
Keilani Torres-Lopez earned the win and recorded two saves in goal for Southern Virginia. The Knights outshot the Cavaliers 29-9.
Southern Virginia hosts Emmanuel College (Ga.) on Wednesday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. EST.
