BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Capital Athletic Conference recently released the 2017 preseason coaches' poll, with Southern Virginia finishing in ninth place with eight points.
Under the direction of third-year head coach Nancy Webber, the Knights are heading into the 2017 season with high hopes to improve on their 7-10 record from 2016. "We are hoping to build on what we have already done with our new recruits, our returners, and walk-ons," Coach Webber said in an interview.
Southern Virginia will look to an impressive group of returners, including seniors Zoe Bradshaw, Claire Houghtaling, and Emily Winslow. Bradshaw was second on the team with 43 goals last season and Houghtaling added 17.
"We are looking to make sure that Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse program is a full experience for all of our players. Being in the Capital Athletic Conference in women's lacrosse is a challenge," Webber continued. "Being at Southern Virginia gives our players the opportunity to see the best of the best in the nation."
The Knights open their season at home against No.18 St. Mary's of Maryland on February 18 at 1 p.m. EST.
