Women's Lax Wins Home Opener

BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia women's lacrosse team hosted Ferrum College on Tuesday and beat the Panters 12-5, winning their second consecutive game and recording their first home win in program history.

The Knights (2-1) took an early 5-0 lead in the first half and led the Panthers (0-2) 6-1 going into halftime.

Ferrum went on a 3-0 run to start the second half, bringing them within two goals, but the Knights defense would only allow one more goal while the offense took control scoring six goals to secure their 12-5 win.

Seniors Rainey Whitworth and Zoe Bradshaw led the Knights with three goals apiece. Claire Houghtaling, Emily Lamb, and Megan Barfuss each scored two goals for the Knights. 

Southern Virginia outshot the Panthers 28-16 with 20 shots on goal. Melanie Lytle recorded five saves for the Knights.

The Knights will look to continue their winning streak at Randolph College on Tuesday, March1 at 6 p.m.
