Women’s Lacrosse Topped at Home by Marymount

BUENA VISTA, Va.—At home in conference action, the Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team fell to Marymount University,18-3, Saturday afternoon at The Fields in Buena Vista, Va.

The Saints (6-4) struck first building a 2-0 lead before sophomore Zoe Bradshaw put the Knights (1-9) on the board with an unassisted goal. Marymount responded with an impressive eight-goal run before Bradshaw scored her second goal of the day on a free position shot. The Saints would add four more goals before the conclusion of the first half to go into the break with a 14-2 advantage.

Senior Caroline Schroeder scored the only goal of the second half for the Knights, while the Saints added four goals before the final whistle.          

The Saints outshot the Knights by a 29-8 ratio and won the ground ball battle, 9-6. Marymount also earned 16 of 23 draw controls for the game while the Knights were able to clear on seven of ten opportunities.

Southern Virginia's Zoe Bradshaw tied Rainey Whitworth for a team-high 12 goals on the season with her two goals on the day, while senior Caroline Schroeder now has nine goals this year.

Kathryn Lyman started in goal for the Knights, logging four saves on the afternoon.

The Knights return to action next Saturday when they travel to conference foe No. 13 York (Pa.). The first draw control is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Kinsley Fields in York, Pa.
