Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Mary Washington in CAC Debut

BUENA VISTA, Va.—In its first Capital Athletic Conference appearance, the Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team fell at home to the University of Mary Washington, 18-2, Saturday afternoon at The Fields in Buena Vista, Va.

Sophomore Zoe Bradshaw started the scoring for the Knights, adding a goal to bring her total to five for the season. Senior Caroline Schroeder added another goal for Southern Virginia for her sixth goal of the year.

Down 9-0 in the first half, Bradshaw scored on a free position opportunity to trim the lead. Mary Washington would add four more goals before the break, taking a 13-1 advantage into the half.

The Eagles tallied five goals in the second half before Schroeder added the Knights' final goal with 3:05 left to play.

Mary Washington outshot the Knights by a 27-7 ratio and won the ground ball battle, 14-12. The Eagles also earned 21 of 22 draw controls for the game, while the Knights cleared on four of eight opportunities.

Freshman Kathryn Lyman started in goal for the Knights, earning two saves for the day.

The Knights return to action Thursday at home in a matchup with Sweet Briar College. The first draw is scheduled for 5 p.m. at The Fields.
